Guillermo (Will) Perez, Director, Maritime Cybersecurity, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
Will leads the maritime cybersecurity program at Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD (RCCL). At RCCL, Will's focus and drive is in protecting marine operational (OT) systems, navigation systems, and other critical shipboard infrastructure. Will is responsible for driving the maritime cybersecurity strategy focusing on industrial control systems (ICS) and marine operational technology (OT) throughout a fleet of 37+ ships. Will led in the development of a newbuild cyber assurance program partnering with European ship yards, IT, and marine suppliers to improve the cybersecurity resilience of newly deployed vessels. Will has over 16 years maritime industry experience with 13 years specializing in cybersecurity.
Will is a thought leader in the maritime sector by being a peer reviewer of DNV-GL's recommended practice (DNV-GL-RP-0496) as well as a contributing author of BIMCO’s guidelines on cybersecurity onboard ships. He has also participated in hacking competitions focused on maritime systems where his team won first place at the Navy's 2017 HackTheMachine competition at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. Will is near completion of his PhD. (2019) in maritime cybersecurity focusing on cyber situational awareness at Nova Southeastern University. Will also holds several security certifications (GICSP, GPEN, GWAPT, and CISSP) specializing in system penetration testing and industrial control systems.
