Sam Harvill, a 26-year military veteran, has served as the Security Operations Manager for the Broward County Port Everglades Department since June 2014. His responsibilities to one of the world's busiest cruise ports and Florida's No. 1 containerized cargo seaport includes the development and implementation of security policies, plans and programs and operational oversight of security, law enforcement and fire rescue operations by facilitating contracts, grants and funding. Sam also interfaces with federal, state and local regulatory agencies that operate in Port Everglades.
Sam serves as a member of the United States Coast Guard Area Maritime Security Committee, the American Association of Port Authorities Security Committee, the Port Everglades Maritime Security Committee, The Southeast Florida Regional Domestic Security Task Force, the ASIS International Supply Chain & Transportation Security Council and the local 104 ASIS International Chapter.
Prior to joining Port Everglades, Sam was a U.S. Army "Airborne Ranger" and Military Police Officer who served multiple assignments both domestic and worldwide specializing in security, law enforcement, force protection and anti-terrorism. Sam served two combat tours in Iraq where he was the senior Department of Defense Security Officer for the Saddam Hussein Trials and the Senior Security Advisor to the Police Chiefs in both Mosul and Kirkuk, Iraq. Sam's last assignment was with United States Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) in Doral, Florida, commanded by the current Secretary, Department of Homeland Security, John F. Kelly (Gen, Ret.) where he served as General Kelly's Anti-Terrorism, Force Protection and Guantanamo Bay Terrorist Detention Operations Chief.
During his military career, Sam was awarded two Bronze Stars, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals and three Army Achievement Medals.
Sam possesses an Undergraduate Degree in Political Science, a Master's Degree in Business Organization and Security Management and is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) which was awarded by ASIS International and is considered the "gold standard" for security practitioners.
