Markus Aarnio, Chairman, Foreship
Markus Aarnio is a co-founder of ship design and engineering company Foreship Ltd, established in 2002, where he currently serves as Chairman and Senior Vice President Ship Technology.
Markus has managed several hundred projects, including a variety of newbuilding and consultation work for different ship owner/operator clients, as well as major conversion projects, spanning the largest of cruise vessels to smaller, boutique ships. He has considerable experience with Polar Code projects for the expedition sector.
Having graduated Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the Helsinki University of Technology, in 1993 Markus secured his M.Sc. at Kvaerner Masa-Yards, where his thesis focused on Gas Turbines as a power source for large cruise vessels. Markus subsequently joined Deltamarin as a Research and Development Engineer. Between 1997 and 1999, he served as Assistant Naval Architect at Star Cruises, based in Papenburg, and worked as an Assistant Naval Architect on the development of 'SuperStar Leo' and 'Libra'-class ships.
Prior to the formation of Foreship, Markus rejoined Deltamarin as Head of Project Department, Helsinki and subsequently took responsibility for the start-up of Deltamarin Engineering, Inc. in the USA.
